My
parents had come across this house in their travels around the state
of Georgia via Dad's Harley. It was a sweltering hot and beautiful
Sunday, most of the family was home and we all were eager to do
something. Mom suggested that we could all go out and find this
house again. It sounded like a great idea; we called Aunt Lydia to
see if she and Grandma would like to go with us. Grandma is mostly
housebound anymore so we though it would be a good opportunity to
get her out and do a little sightseeing. Mom knew what town the
house was near but all the same we managed to miss it by quite a
bit. we had gone in two vehicles Sierra, Moreia, and Myself in one
vehicle and Mom, Aunt Lydia, and Grandma in the other. We got split
up which only makes sense for us and ended up driving into the town
of Madison, and then through the town of Madison and then continued
on until Sierra was convinced she no longer knew where we were but
knew we had gone too far. We turned around and headed back the way
we had come and eventually found the house. Despite the cracked and
pealing paint and broken windows the house is actually in good
condition with little weather damage to the inside. We explored the
house going through each room and admiring the architecture and the
all wood and brick construction. The way the house was constructed
each room had a fireplace in it, but to minimize the number of
chimneys each chimney housed 2 fireplaces back to back with one fire
place in each room. The land around the house was as interesting as
the house itself as there were many smaller buildings of similar age
ranging from stores to barns and other small houses, I probably
could have spent many hours walking around the property and taking
photos but the day was wearing on and it was getting time to get
grandma back home. Our trip back home went much smother than our
trip out to the house, but being our typical selves we had to do our
share of wandering unknown road until we got back home. |
